Letters
Colin Rose, Outgoing SAITSA President
I am writing this letter as a closing statement to an interesting and insightful relationship with the Weal and its writers over the past two years, as well as the students of SAIT. I appreciate all the hard work the paper does in sculpting articles for students, and I see it as one of the most important ways to communicate with everyone on campus.
I’d also like to comment on my experience as part of SAITSA for over three years now. I was originally drawn to this association because of student clubs. As I progressed through my studies, I became increasingly aware of the depth of influence the team has on the student experience at SAIT.
I am constantly amazed by the SAITSA staff’s ability to integrate themselves in very different departments. From a pub, to a convenience store, to a health and dental plan, they all know exactly why they’re here, and I couldn’t have done much without their support.
Everything we do here is important: from the way student issues are consistently brought forward in every meeting, to every person we talk to, to the services available on campus that students want, and to the individual projects and goals we set. I will be leaving this place as a lifetime advocate for student rights and issues, because the people here, both working for SAITSA and the student body, have demonstrated the importance of a post-secondary education in our economy.
It’s important to become involved in the community that exists solely to grow people into successful adults. There is so much to offer at SAIT; the best way to get the most out of your education is to seek out these opportunities to make things better. A great example of people that have done this is our student councillor representatives, who deserve a great debt of gratitude for their dedication this year. I am honoured to have worked so closely with each of them, and to help them make their goals a reality.
One of the most important roles we play at SAITSA is to grow an opinion in the hearts and minds of students, staff, faculty at SAIT and the integrated communities. Our opinion is that post-secondary matters. I envy the next year’s executive who get to come and take this organization into the next school year, with 88 proud years behind it, and leave it a little better for the future.
It has been an unforgettable experience for me, and it will continue to be unforgettable for all students that follow. Thanks SAIT!
Your Outgoing-President,
Colin Rose
