Window to a view opens doors to local artists

The City of Calgary is striving to brighten the downtown core.

In an endeavour to liven things up, Open Spaces Window to a View features works by local artists, including a SAIT employee.

Each month, the city showcases a pair of artists at a different urban location. Artist Billy Rae Busby is currently sharing the Seventh Avenue C-Train platform space with artist, Alice Helwig.

By day, Busby works at SAIT in the athletics marketing and communications department.

She is also an abstract painter who recently received a grant from the city to promote her work at the public venue.

Busby grew up in Saskatchewan and paints abstract prairie landscapes.

“Driving back and forth (between Alberta and Saskatchewan) it’s so vast. I wanted to communicate the nostalgia but not in a traditional way. In a way that was unique to me but also can still be a landscape,” says Busby.

A painter for more than 15 years, Busby says she has seriously delved into painting abstract prairie-scapes over the last three to four years.
