Photojournalism students exposed at Photo 2010

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the photos featured in Photo Exhibit 2010 should be worth a million.

This February, the SAIT library will showcase over 300 unique photography displays by the second-year photojournalism students.

Chad Gibson, one of the 16 featured photographers in the exhibit, says students and staff will see a lot of variety.

“It really gives us a chance to show what were capable of,” says Gibson. “You’ll see everything from news, features, portraits to sports.”

This year the People’s Choice contest will have two selections, best photo and best photographer overall. Winners will be announced at the showcase event on Feb. 9 with prizes supplied by the industry.

Frank Shufletoski, second-year photojournalism instructor, says you’ll be treated to some great images from talented photographers.

“After a year and a half of telling them what to do, they get a chance to show what they can do, and what they want to show,” says Shufletoski. “Each student has at least one killer photo that will grab your attention.”

Shufletoski says he’s expecting to see some big names in the industry dropping in to scout out the talent. “It’s good exposure for the graduating class to get their names out there and build contacts.”

The showcase is running in the library until Tuesday. The winner is selected by viewers votes cast throughout the week.
