Starting his first year at SAIT, J.D Watt has made a good impression on the men’s hockey team with the history of having been a Calgary Flames draft pick.
His inspiration and hero in the sport is Al MacInnis, an NHL superstar who was famous for having the hardest shot in the league.
“He’s kind of a mentor to me,” Watt said.
Although Watt has no ritual before a game other than listening to country music and keeping a casual attitude until he’s on the ice, Watt said his pre-game food of choice is steak and veggies, sometimes a baked potato or pasta.
When he’s not busy playing hockey, Watt can be found enjoying a round of golf, and if he could try a new sport, it would be squash.
“My best trait is probably my competitiveness, but my motto to live by is to treat others as you would like to be treated,” said Watt.
Though he says he has no special talents, he is obsessed with the show Sons of Anarchy and tries to be home every Tuesday night to watch it.
When asked if he could play for any hockey team, he said, “It’d be the SAIT Trojans.”
