Get your game on!
SAIT Recreation offers students the opportunity to form their own teams in numerous sports as part of a student based, leisure intramural program.
“It’s affordable and I will get a chance to be a part of the SAIT spirit…I look forward to the new friends I’ll meet just from being there,” said David Young, first-year electrician apprentice student, who has already submitted his registration for intramurals.
Registration is $20 for the intramural program, and is open to any full-time students from SAIT and Alberta College of Art & Design with a valid Campus Centre pass.
Alumni are also permitted to play provided they register and pay an additional $55.
For registration to be accepted, teams and individual students must submit their enrolment forms and fees on or before Sept. 20 in room V127 in the Campus Centre building.
Sports offered in the intramural program range from ice hockey to indoor soccer, and all levels of ability are encouraged to participate. There are also prizes for league champions.
“Anyone can play, that’s the great thing about intramurals…it’s all for the purpose of fun,” says intramurals coordinator Mike Stevens.
Stevens is also the men’s basketball head coach, and SAIT alumnus who played on the Trojan men’s basketball team.
There will also be a SAIT staff intramurals league taking place during the lunch hour starting Oct. 4, that will include dodgeball, volleyball, indoor soccer and basketball.
“I hope to see my instructors get their butts whipped,” said Christopher Jones, first-year chemical engineering technology student.
Jones admitted that although his schedule wouldn’t allow for participation in the games, he already has watching SAIT staff “duke it out” booked into his calendar.
So for those who are into spectating rather than playing, games are free to attend and are held every Monday to Thursday evening at 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 24.
There is also a winter semester program that is has an ongoing registration until Jan. 17, 2013.
