The women’s soccer team warmed up the preseason against the U18 Blizzards at home on Sept. 4 and the men’s soccer team played their pre-season game against the U of C Dinos on Sept. 5.
The women’s soccer team was victorious, 3–0 against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks for their home opener on Sept. 8. The team hasn’t started with a three point opener since fall of 2008.
Striker Amory Hudson started the game off with the first goal just before half time.
In the second half, getting the second goal for the team was forward Cassey Bush.
The final and winning goal came from midfielder Elizabeth Hoyeck. The strategy of being on the attack during the full first half gave the women’s team the window of opportunity to put the pressure on.
Although the men’s team began their opener with an “own” goal hitch in the first half on Sept. 8, they fought through minor communication flops to take a 3-2 victory against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
The first and second goals were credited to forward Jaron Broom, the final goal was from striker Amadou Diallo.
With both teams playing back-to-back in Medicine Hat on Sept. 9, the men’s soccer team defeated the MHC Rattlers 2 – 1. The game began with a goal from striker Gbenja Ajibulu in the first half followed by a winning goal by midfielder Zakaria Ghenam in the second half.
The players seemed more confident in their skills on the field which, ultimately led them to victory.
The women’s team wasn’t as lucky, losing 1–0 against the MHC Rattlers, their loss being credited to not enough shots on net.
